I don’t know about you…

But I love this time of year.

The weather starts to get a little cooler, leaves start to change colors, and let’s not forget all those tasty fall foods!

Not to mention, the return of America’s favorite drink…

The pumpkin spice latte.

As soon as October hits, this flavorful drink becomes all the rage.

And who doesn’t love the taste of pumpkin, right? (As long as the lectin-rich seeds are gone, of course.)

This sweet concoction seems like the perfect sidekick for a chilly day.

However, there are a few problems that come with this seasonal staple:

It’s LOADED with sugar… and empty calories.

Did you know, a typical pumpkin spice latte contains a whopping 49 grams of sugar?

That’s more sugar than two scoops of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. Yikes.

But that’s not all…

Thanks to the heavy whipped cream, caramel, and dairy— this simple “cup of coffee” can carry close to 500 nutrition-less calories.

So what should you do instead? Try…

The Ultimate HEALTHY Pumpkin Spice Latte

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients (Makes 1):

  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 3-4 slices fresh ginger
  • 2 allspice berries
  • ½ cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
  • Stevia to sweeten
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg, to garnish

  1. In a small pan, bring the coconut milk, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and allspice to a simmer.
  2. Cover, and simmer on low for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Brew coffee or espresso and pour into cup of your choice.
  4. Carefully pour milk mixture through a strainer into the coffee.
  5. Sweeten to your taste, and serve topped with nutmeg.

It’s overflowing with polyphenols from both the cloves and allspice. So, each sip of this “dynamic duo” keeps your body full of energy for hours on end.

And of course, it tastes like a delicious dessert — WITHOUT all the added sugar.

So, give this lectin-free twist on a fall classic a try. I guarantee you’ll love it.
