Pop darling and American Idol superstar Kelly Clarkson recently lost an amazing 37 pounds using The Plant Paradox. Clarkson didn’t set out to lose the weight, it’s simply a happy effect of cutting out lectins.

How did it happen? Well, Ms. Clarkson said she read the book The Plant Paradox by cardiac surgeon Dr. Steven Gundry.

“It’s basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic,” said the singer. After applying the principles of the diet to her own lifestyle, Clarkson was even able to turn her health around. Everybody’s talking about the amazing Kelly Clarkson weight loss plan. But, it’s not just about losing weight.

What’s Behind the Kelly Clarkson Weight Loss Plan?

Well, according to Dr. Steven Gundry, the American diet happens to center around a toxic protein hidden in all kinds of plant foods. This bad protein is known as the lectin. Lectins can be found in all sorts of food. For instance, the following foods are all high lectin foods:

  • Wheat
  • Fruits and veggies with lots of seeds
  • Potatoes
  • Legumes/beans
  • Certain nuts
  • Many dairy products

The Plant Paradox helps you learn to work with those foods to lower their lectin content or cut out lectins altogether.

How does The Plant Paradox work?

Well, The Plant Paradox focuses on how certain foods — even fruits and veggies you think are good for you — have the potential compromise to your health. Now, you might be thinking there’s no way that fruits and vegetables could take a toll on your well-being — they’re supposedly the healthiest foods out there.

Well, there you have the plant paradox: You’ve been told certain foods are healthy, but they could also be bad for you. So, choosing what you eat — and how you prep it — can help you maintain your health in the best way possible. You just have to know how to help food help you.

It’s actually quite simple.

The Plant Paradox proves that, like us, plants have a few tricks up their sleeves when it comes to protecting themselves.

It’s survival of the fittest, right? They don’t want to be eaten.

According to Dr. Gundry, plants are really good chemists and they’ve concocted ways to make you sick so you don’t continue to eat them. Their most successful agent of defense — lectins. Plants know that if you eat lectins and they make you sick, you probably won’t come back for more and the plant can continue to live.

How Can Lectins Upset Your System?

Well, let’s take the most famous lectin out there – gluten. Most people think they can help themselves if they cut gluten from their diet. But a gluten-free diet won’t fix the problem. Because there are all sorts of lectins out there. And when they get together, these lectins might cause you to experience:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Leaky Gut Syndrome
  • Digestive issues
  • Bloating
  • Gas

So, if you eat a bunch of seeds, a certain grain, or even the skin of your favorite vegetable or piece of fruit, the lectins inside it can attach to the sugars in your body — like sialic acid (a sugar in your brain, gut, nervous tissue) and interfere with the regular bodily functions of the person who eats them.1,2

Worse than the discomforts listed above, lectins can even grab onto harmful bacteria and viruses and help them find more permanent homes in your body.3 So if you think you may have a lectin issue, you could be getting sick more than your friends or family who aren’t as sensitive. The Plant Paradox goes into quite a bit of detail on this.

Furthermore, lectins could cause you to gain weight. That’s why your ancestors who rarely got to eat used to rely on lectin-heavy foods like fruit. When the hunter/gatherer generations weren’t sure when they’d find their next meal, they tried to fatten up to survive winter. And the foods they needed most — fruit and wheat.

Today, however, most folks eat multiple times a day every day, they don’t need to “fatten up.” So they don’t need the help of lectins.

It seems that almost everyone has some amount of lectin damage to their digestive system. If you pick up Dr. Gundry’s book, you’ll learn all about the different kinds of foods and chemicals that wreak havoc on your gut. When you open the door to lectins by eating lectin heavy foods, you allow for the beginning of a lasting, destructive cycle.

But if you follow Kelly Clarkson’s example, you can get some real healing to happen. Of course, your physical response will vary. While some people can better themselves quickly, others may need more time to enjoy a healthier gut.
